Relevant commitment to our planet
We founded Relevant with one promise:
“To develop gentle but effective everyday cosmetics products while taking care of our planet”
Everything we make has an impact on our planet.
Founding a business in 2020 comes with a huge responsibility. Especially in the cosmetics industry.
It's estimated that 120 billion units of cosmetics packaging are manufactured each year. And that only 9% is being recycled.
In other words: there lies a great challenge ahead. Not just for us, but for every company, government and consumer.
There's no planet B. And that's why it's so important that we take care of what we got. Not just for the sake of our generation, but also for the generations to come.
We're committed to do our part. That is why we promise all of you (and the planet) that we'll only develop the most relevant everyday cosmetics products.

Relevant change for our oceans
Every year, almost 10 million tonnes of plastics end up in our oceans. If we continue like this, it's estimated that there will be more plastic waste than fish in our oceans (by weight) in 2050. One of the most harmful sources of ocean plastic is fishing nets, as fishermen simply do not have any sustainable way of discarding them.
Luckily, one of our partners has set up an ecosystem that ensures the collection of fishing nets from local fisheries. In that way, they prevent more fishing nets entering our oceans or ending up in our landfills.
Knowing this and wanting to start a new sustainable skincare brand, we're committed to helping reverse this trend.
So, we spent 1 year developing our unique deodorant packaging in 100% recycled fishing nets. This has been a complex development process, as very few manufacturers in Europe have the capabilities to do so.
Fortunately, we found capable and open-minded partners who have helped us develop the world’s first ocean plastic deodorant packaging.
We're proud to have developed the world’s first ocean plastic deodorant. It was not an easy start to our Relevant journey, but indeed necessary. We have shown other brand owners that it's possible to use 100% recycled material in their packaging. Hopefully, this will encourage other brand owners to follow along and make a positive impact on our planet.

Relevant actions
To act on our promise of taking care of our planet, we focus on 5 key areas:
- 1. Ingredients
- 2. Circular packaging
- 3. Distribution of products
- 4. Local sourcing
- 5. Giving back
All our ingredients have been carefully selected to ensure the effectiveness of our products while keeping them gentle on the skin.
Our product development philosophy is ‘less is more’. This means that we only use as few ingredients as possible, ensuring minimal waste in our products.
We've set up a framework for the selection of our ingredients:
- Completely traceable - from extraction to final product
- Sustainably sourced and manufactured under proper working conditions
- Easily obtained in nature after use
- No animal ingredients, animal by-products or animal testing
- Free from bad chemicals causing allergenic impurities (non-perfume products*)

Relevant future
We can always do more for our planet. And we know we are not going to change the world ourselves. But we have tried our very best to make what we believe is a sustainable skincare brand. Over the years to come, we will constantly look into how we can continue to make sustainable choices for our brand.
If you have any questions about our sustainability philosophy, feel free to write us an email at hello@relevantcos.com.
